If a dog was the teacher you would learn stuff like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

When it's in your best interest, practice obedience. !

Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

Take naps.

Stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back in the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout ... run right back and make friends.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.

Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

i will stick cats thanks. they are the lazy person's pet. there is the old say: a dog comes when called, a cat takes a message and thinks about getting back to you. another one is: dogs have masters, cats have slaves. oh how i could go on!

crazycow your "Dog wisdom" brought a tear to my eyes as I remembered the li'l buddies it has been my privelege to grow up with over the years. One does not just 'have' a dog, but one gains a trusting, faithful friend who is ecstatic when you are happy and willing to listen when you are unhappy. There is a long-running debate as to whether people domesticated dogs or vice-versa. I say 'who cares', whatever size, shape, make or model I love all the li'l buggers. Of course I have been bitten by some (not mine) but when they got to know me they tried to apologise by giving me bones and stuff. They can be very naughty, for instance I once had a border collie that would chase cars down the road. I got him out of that habit only to find that while I was at work each day he had been teaching my pet pig to do the same. I stood in stunned silence one afternoon as my pig went hurtling down the road after a car while my dog was rolling around on the ground in full body wag. Here boy

Gee Greg60 i would love to see that a pig aye. Yes our four legged friends do bring much joy to our lives and are sometimes better listeners than our two legged friends.

I won't go into how Skip (my border collie) also messed with the mind of my pet sheep, but if you have ever seen a sheep bare its teeth and try to growl, nuff said. The reasoning, I presume, behind this is that my ducks didn't like Skip and used to give him a hard time so he figured he'd build up his support base with a pig and a sheep by turning them into honorary dogs. But in the final showdown the magnificent three turned into chickens and every season after that the ducks remained unbeaten champions. Shit, they even got me running and I was the referee. Ya gotta luvya critters and those who don't I feel so sorry for coz they are a constant source of fun, chuckles and happiness.

i agree. i think dogs are the most amazing, trustworthy, beautiful animals ever. we have 6 of them (admittedly i do live on a farm!) and i love them all to bits. mine is called oscar and he's a golden lab. he is so gorgeous and he even sleeps on my bed - he takes up half a queen size bed!!!)

Labradors are one of the most beautiful four-legged people I have ever met. I have not had the honour of sharing my place with one but I have known many. They are among the most friendliest, intelligent and all round chipper dogs of all time. If Santa were a dog he would be a labrador. My border collie (Skip) was super intelligent and, as I have mentioned previously, used to love taking the mickey. But be they chihuahuas or Irish wolf hounds or anything in between I love them all. Do you think that dogs were domesticated by people or that people were domesticated by dogs. This is a long running anthropoligcal debate and I would be interested to hear your answer.
