no, it isn't what you think. the other night, my husband david, our son jack and i went to the local japanese restaurant for dinner. haven't been there for just over a year (it can be expensive but worth it). cost us $106 for the meal and drinks for the 3 of us. love going there when we can. it's got to the stage that the owner/head chef knows us by sight. what we love about the place is they cook the main meals on a hot plate in front of you. so we have had our fix until next we go there.

We loooove Japanese in our house too.

I love that my little ones are really into Sushi...it makes for a healthy lunch when we are out and about.

Japanses Cafes are great, they are a bit cheaper, and sometimes the food is better.

yum yum yum

When I went to Singapore in Feb I went to a Japanese restaurant and it was really nice. They didn't cook the food in front of you though, I would love to be able to go to one of those restaurants.

My late Uncle was a "guest" of the Japanese durint the war, so I know what you are saying, kirrilly. He was on the Burma Railway project, and was held prisoner for 4 years, and came back a skeleton of a man
He lived till he was 94 though, and outlived my Aunty by 11 years

But on the other hand I like some Japanese food. We went to Japan back in the mid 70s, and it is a beautiful country, the people were so polite and friendly and couldn't do enough for you. I've been to a couple of the Japanese resturants here where they cook in front of you, it was great.

Sushi,Yum.

My Dad was in Darwin just after it had been bombed,so he never had anything good to say about the Japanese.

sure, the japanese have done a few "questionable" things over the decades, stuff that i disagree with but that doesn't stop me enjoying most of the food they have on offer.

You did respond very strongly in regards to your thoughts on the matter. You could have made your own topic to point these thoughts out and not in this topic. I don't agree with what the Japanese did during the war but I still like to eat the food. My uncle was captured by the Germans in the 2nd World War and tortured. I don't like what they did but I still eat German Food. Its not what a person says its how they say it. It is possible to get a point across without being aggressive about it.

oivey woman... you are very passionate with what you believe...however... grasshopper...one person cannot change the mindset of all with force. Did Ghandhi force the Britis to capitulate with his passionate beliefs? no. Change takes time.

what has happened to this thread? when i started it, i wanted to let everyone know about a wonderful time i had with my husband and son. i had no idea that it would end up this way. i do hope that everyone can look at things in a positive light at what i was trying to do here, and not have a slanging match. i thought the forums were designed to have positive discussions etc.

hey, i don't have problems telling you all about my dining options at all. a few days after the japanese restaurant, we all went to a pub called the cattle yards in (and yes it's right near the sale yards -sheep for sale that day) anyway had a wonderful feed there too. jack had his fave of chicken nuggets and chips with some veges. david had snags, mash and veges and i had rissoles, mash and veges. not sure where i'm off to next a girlfriend is coming down from brisvegas for a few days and she and i will have lunch together. she will be in town when jack will be at school and not sure about david yet. don't know if he will be at work or will have a day off. will give an up date soon if people are interested.

OK so that brings us to animal rights, JUST KIDDING. I love a good old traditional pub meal. Although these days a lot of pubs have been yuppiefied and charge exorbitant prices. Thankfully there is one down the road that still has decent meals at a decent price. However, I do like Asian food and usually cook it myself because I can't afford to eat out too often. Fortunately I am an acceptable cook.
