The security course isn't difficult at all just been quite hard to get to the last night. For some reason the bus doesn't turn up on a wednesday. I had the car last wednesday and they had cancelled. Have exams at the end of the day they are simple.

I guess I could as we don't have any chrissy things here at all. I think one year the kid decorated the house with halloween stuff because of that

You should see the place it has all these nooks and crannies totally chockers of things that go round, make noise and do all sorts of things. Looks like it will be quite fun.

I have a cousin thats suppose to be doing the security course in Bris. He keeps getting told that its full and they might fit him in the next one.

Me thinks hes lying to us, me thinks he was told he wasnt suited for security.

Rhope do you have to do some kinda mental test before they let you do the course???

Before you start the course you need to get a police check. That takes a few weeks. You get a letter saying you are squeaky clean which doesn't really mean much. You commence the course. When you have completed this you wait for the certificates to be sent out to you. Once you have these you take them to a JP and get certified photo copies signed by the JP. You then send these and two written references away to the Security Industry Register. This is a branch of the police and the letter have to be exactly the same as the example given or they don't look at your stuff. Then you get a letter saying you can go to the police station and provide finger prints. At this stage if you have been involved in a crime and never got caught expect to get caught now. The finger prints are checked against any unsolved crimes. At this point you can apply for positions in the security industry. Once you pass all that you receive a provisional licence and over the period of one year you have four assessments. You don't do these assessments and you can't get a full licence. So it could be they are full up or it could be he failed his police check. Anyways it isn't as easy to get into security now as it used to be.

But no mental test which I think should be included.

Boy, Rhope, you certainy have to jump through hoops now!!! Back in the 70s and 80s I worked for 2 security companies, and apart from filling out application forms, there was no other test to do. I do remember going to the Burwood police station, but can't remember exactly what for now. I was at the International airport first, checking passengers hand luggage by hand as that was how it was done before the X-ray machines were installed some years later. Later I was with TNT at the Domestic airport, till about 1982 I think it was.
Rhope I hope it all goes well for you, and you enjoy working in the Xmas shop. We have one just up the road from us
